Japanese women do this. We don't. 👀

What Japanese women know (that we don't), the little bag that held my whole weekend, and why I cried in Vegas.

Hi beautiful, ☕️

I came back from Vegas and my skin filed a formal complaint.

Same routine, suddenly flat, dull, a little stranger every morning.

Then I fell down a rabbit hole on what women in Japan actually do.

Spoiler: they do less, but they do it religiously.

I rebuilt my routine around it, and my mom now texts me “I told you so” 😆

Also, I left my kids for a whole weekend and had a tiny crisis.

More on that later.

Inside this week:

✨ 5 beauty tips Japanese women know (that we don’t)
🧳 What I never leave without when I’m travelling (you need #3)
💛 The weekend getaway that reminded me I'm still a person

Same skincare, two generations, one very serious group chat about it. ❤️

What are Japanese women doing?!

Here's the thing nobody warns you about at 40.

Your skin doesn't get worse, it gets thirstier, and pickier, and slower to bounce back.

The J-beauty answer isn't a 10 step routine, it's the right order, right products, layered thin.

Here’s what I know works:

1. The step everyone skips ✨ If your skin looks dull even right after washing, you're probably missing the very first layer. On damp skin I press in this brightening softener, a longevity complex that preps skin to repair, then this vitamin C booster for that lit-from-within tone. My mom loves the softener so much she’s always asking if I have extra’s! Tip: press, don't rub, and use SPF

2. Layer milk, not just water 💧 Hydration that sits on top and evaporates is why you feel tight by noon. For super dry skin, this ceramide milk toner soothes and hydrates and when paired with the Hydra Zen moisturizer, everything is sealed and my skin feels softTip: think thin layers, not one heavy cream.

3. Your weekly clinic at home ✨ When my skin looks tired and flat, one night resets it. Once a week I use this spicule mask, same glow as a clinic visit with no bill, then this PDRN serum to keep the repair going, this is one of the best PDRN serums I have. Tip: do it the night before anything you're photographed at.

4. The under-eyes that give it away 👀 By 40 my under-eyes looked tired even after a full night, puffy by morning and a little crepey by dinner. Now I firm them at night with this omega peptide eye firming cream, then wake my lips up with this vitamin C lip smoothie (4th jar) so my whole face looks brighterTip: press it in with your ring finger so you never tug the delicate skin.

5. The long-hair ritual that saved my ponytail 🌿 I noticed more hair in the brush and a thinner ponytail long before anyone else did. Japanese women care a lot of about their hair (especially hair loss) so I work this HD lock drops for thinning hair into my scalp at night, then sit under this LED hair growth helmet a few times a week while I scroll. Tip: consistency is the whole ritual, even ten minutes counts.

I never leave without THESE…

The flight hack I can't shut up about 📱 Cranking my neck to watch something flat on the tray table used to wreck me. This mag-safe phone stand slips right into the seat-back slot where the menus go, so the screen sits at eye level, and it's so thin it packs like nothing.

The bag that held it all 🧳 This weekender bag has all the space you need and keeps everything organized for a quick getaway. The shoe compartment alone is worth it.

Plane to dinner, zero wrinkles 👖 These bestselling travel pants went straight from the flight to the table. Comfy the whole way, and their bestseller for good reason. They are so stretchy and comfortable.

The sleep shirt I always pack 🌙 Hotel beds feel less strange in your own soft pj’s. This sleeping shirt came home smelling like the whole trip. I wear it 99% of the time at home and to sleep… you know it’s really good when I’m constantly washing it.

Somewhere between the wine and the belly laugh, I found myself again. ✨

The secret I’ve kept for 31 years…

I left my kids for the first time in over three years. 🤯

Just me and Jeff, a flight to Vegas, and a knot in my stomach the whole way there.

I trust my parents completely.

That wasn't the problem.

The problem was the list in my head that never stops… 💭

  • Will they sleep?

  • What if one gets sick?

  • What if we get stuck and can't get home right away?

  • What if they have so much fun with the grandparents they stage a quiet coup and refuse to take me back?

Then, suddenly, no one needed anything from me.

We watched the Backstreet Boys light up the Sphere. 😍

We yelled through Summer League basketball.

We swayed to Olivia Dean like we were twenty-two and free.

And somewhere in there I stopped bracing for the next emergency.

I forgot what it felt like to be a person

and not a to do list.

I missed my kids the entire time.

I also laughed harder than I had in months.

Turns out both can be true at once.

You can miss them like a limb and still feel yourself come back to life.

I came home lighter, and they barely noticed I was gone.

That made me cry, the good kind. 🥹
