I wasn't ready to see this... 😳

What broke at 40 and what fixed it, things I resisted for years and the lesson I got from a pool chair.

Hi beautiful, ☕

I'm writing this from a pool chair on vacation…

Reviewing all my life choices. Lol. 😆

First quiet moment in days, and my brain goes: you're 40 now.

My kids are out there shrieking, living their best lives.

I'm counting fine lines and staring at my thinning hairline.

Two lifetimes, six feet apart.

I told myself, I deserve to live my best life too.

So here's what I'm spilling this week.

🧴 The 40’s swaps I started way to late
🫠 4 things I didn't know I needed until now
🪑 What a pool chair taught me about letting go

Nobody in this car knows what I went through for this skin. 😆

The swaps I made too late…

The stuff that carried me through my 30s just… stopped working.

So I rebuilt from scratch…

And these are the ones I'd repurchase tomorrow ✨

1. Nobody warned me my body would get this dry 🧴 I poured everything into my face and let my body go dry and crepey. This exfoliate and glow body trio buffs and floods my skin until it feels supple again, and my best friend who just hit 40 won't stop texting me about it. Tip: The one nobody tells you… wear retinol below your neck too. This retinol body smoothing treatment took me from flaky to radiant in two weeks.

2. I wasn’t ready to see my hair thin out 😩 My part widened and my hairline turned patchy, and it wrecked my confidence. These daily scalp lock drops are what my mom has used for years, and her hair is still thick and luscious.Tip: And retire the old curling iron… this infrared thermal brush is why my hair looks healthier than it has in years.

3. My Chinese aunties' secret weapon 🔬 Pigmentation and dark spots show up fast on Asian skin, and mine were creeping in. This lactic acid glow treatment evens my tone and plumps fine lines, and the asian aunties swear by it. Tip: Pair it with this brightening eye cream… I only wish I'd started in my 20s, because it's finally fading my dark circles.

4. The 2-step makeup that doesn't age me 💄 The more makeup I pile on now, the more the fine lines and patchiness show. This vitamin-enriched face primer grips everything so my makeup sits smooth all day. Tip: Then one layer of this luminous skin glow foundation… it covers spots and circles without ever going cakey, from school runs to date night.

5. The lip + cheek combo in all your DMs 💋 You ask about this one constantly. This soft matte lippie flatters every skin tone and never makes my teeth look yellow. Tip: Sweep this lip and cheek glow stick high on the cheekbones, never the apples, for a K-drama flush that takes five years off.

Filed under: why did I wait THIS long?

Some of these I resisted for years.

Now I can't imagine my week without them.

🧺 The scent people always ask me about I did not expect a detergent to become my whole personality, but here we are. This non-toxic scented laundry wash makes my sheets smell like a perfume, and this travel fragrance spray comes everywhere with me… people literally hug me and go, "you smell so good, what IS that?" Tip: Spritz on your pulse points after you get dressed and wait for the compliments.

🧘 Deep core is everything after kids My belly is flat every morning and ballooning by night, and it turns out that's a deep core thing. I started pelvic floor work, even saw a specialist to relearn how to breathe and engage, and this deep core video is what finally made it click. Tip: I do it at home with this pilates kit so I actually engage the right muscles.

🧳 The luggage that made travel feel easy Nothing kills a trip faster than wrestling a bag that fits nothing. This 2-piece luggage set is carry-on friendly, holds a shocking amount, and has a pocket for every single thing you'd need. Tip: It's my go-to for a weekend getaway… and the matching set is honestly its own little serotonin boost.

🩳 The shorts I did not expect to love I splurged on these everyday shorts and now I get it… they cinch the waist, hide the pooch, and I've worn them so much they're better value than the ones just sitting in my drawer. For my tennis games, these lightweight tennis shorts are my go-to… so airy I forget I'm even wearing them. Probably have been worn over 100 times already.

This was the whole vacation. That's it. 🥹

The pool chair lesson.

When summer hit, I had big plans. 📝

I'd seen the moms online with their giant summer bucket list boards, all those grand memory-making gestures.

(I still haven't made the board, by the way.)

I spent weeks quietly stressing about making their summer perfect and unforgettable.

And then we got here.

I'm on a pool chair, not even in the water, just watching them.

Floaties on. Goggles on. Diving for sinkies over and over and over. 🥽

For three hours straight. That's all they wanted.

My husband and I played cards, drank wine out of our Yeti mugs, and threw the sinkies back, again and again.

No grand plan. No perfect itinerary.

Just them, completely happy. 🥰

I think I build these big things because I think that’s what they want.

And I wanted to hand them more.

But maybe more was never the board.

Maybe it was always just this… me in a chair, them screaming ‘Mom, watch this!” from the pool.

There's no downtime for me on these trips. None.

And I'd still do it again.

Next time, though? I'm finding a place with a kids' club. 🙂
